Principals' Meeting

Greetings!
Today was a busy day for me. I picked up reports at ITS, and then went to a principals' meeting at Miami Lakes Tech.

The meeting was packed with information, and none of it really pertains to our center, for example, we don't have the SAVES program, we don't have Vocational programs, and we don't have Trade Advisory Councils.

So, what do we have? We have new part time teachers to adult education. All teachers who are new to teaching in the adult ed program need to attend the ELITE New Teacher Orientation. We have a list, we know who you are and will contact you for the training.

The CASAS test will be done on the computer once everything is set up. This will be a big help to everyone.

Non-instructional personnel may not exceed the 12.5 hours a week limit. Any exceptions to this mandate requires a waiver from the Region and District.

Our master schedule will roll over next week. Our Registrar needs to know the tentative classes for the April trimester.

And, we said goodbye to Dr. Hoffman. She received a beautiful arrangement of roses and a gift certificate from all of the principals.

Discipline has been an issue in the last few days, please tighten up with the rules.

All in all it was a good day. I love my job and I love what I do, and I do what I love.

That's all for tonight - until tomorrow.

What a great day!

The weather is perfect.

Our new copier finally arrived. Now we will be able to email hard copies to all of
our teachers. This will save on making copies and teachers will be able to save the
information on their computer or jump drives.

Remember to change your clocks on Sunday, spring forward one hour!

I have not been able to post the Education Stimulus proposal. I will email it to you once
our copier is set up.

I have been reviewing the grades/lcps for last term and there are still many high school
students who have received incompletes and ESOL students who need to be tested. If these students don't receive a grade this term it will mean money loss for our center.

I'm working on designing our web page, which is out of commission, the students at Ferguson Sr. will be doing all the hard work of creating it and uploading it to our site.

Stamps are going up again in May. If you haven't done so, buy the "forever" stamps and save $.

Hope to read your comments.

Greetings!

I love this cold weather. I hope it stays this way until May.

Dr. Edwina Hoffman is retiring at the end of the month. You can email her your best wishes.

I'll be working on our web page today. I'm accepting ideas and suggestions.

I have the Bonus Listening Program for all ESOL levels ready for distribution. You can stop by and pick them up from me or wait until they arrive at Varela.

I'm will try to post the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act State Allocations". Remember I am in a learning mode.

Hope to hear from you.

Our Assistant Principal, Ms. Alegret, will be out for a few days.
Our office was scrubbed on Friday and it looks great!

New Blog Page

Greetings!

I'm experimenting with "blogging" in order to keep you up to date on what is happening at our school. Hopefully I will have participation from all of you.

Today, I attended a principals' meeting with our Superintendent, Dr. Carvalho. The purpose of the meeting was to thank us for our hard work and bring us up to date on the District's financial situation.

He shared his "4 principles"
1. no more layoffs
2. our annual salaries will not be compromised
3. the level of services to students will not be compromised
4. avoid repeating past fiscal mistakes.

I was impressed with his honesty and sincererity and left the meeting quite optimistic.
It was a good meeting.
